For the final exam, you will select two questions from the following questions and thoroughly respond to them during the final exam.  You will be allowed to use an outline of your creation to assist you in responding thoroughly to the questions.


1.       What are conflict minerals and how do they contribute to the instability in Africa?

2.       How did the practices of governing the colonies in Africa contribute to instability on the continent after the various African nations gained their independence?  Provide an example in your response.

3.       List and describe three factors that help ensure the success of a colony?

4.       Why has Brazil been a successful colony and nation?  What makes Brazil different from other countries in South America/Africa?

Causes of the Russian Revolution

Instructions:

1.      Students will be placed in groups numbered 1-5

2.      In your groups, students will use laptops or personal electronic devices to visit the website http://www.johndclare.net/Russ3.htm

3.      Based upon the number of your group, you will research and prepare to report out to the class the causes of the Russian Revolution.

4.      While the various numbered groups are reporting out their findings, you will complete the graphic organizer on the causes of the Russian Revolution.

After completing the Russian Czars graphic organizer you are to do the following.  You are to come up with a mechanism to rank the Russian Czars.  You could rank them according to their impact on Russia, who was the best or worst, or some other mechanism of your choosing.  After ranking the Czars, you will write out the justification for your rankings using evidence to explain why you ranked them in the order that you did.  This assignment is to be completed in sentence/paragraph form, no bullet points.  This assignment is due at the beginning of the period on Friday.

1. Describe the founding of Rome.  How did their early tactics facilitate their growth?
2. How and why did the Romans adopt a Republican form of government?  How did it change over the first five centuries of the republic?
3. Why did Rome continually expand?  What happened when they ran out of territories to conquer?
4. Describe and explain the decline and fall of the western Roman Empire.  Be specific in your descriptions of the chain of events that led to the its demise.

Today, you are beginning a culminating activity for our Rome unit.  You will access the reading below, read about the legacy of the Roman Empire, and create a PowerPoint presentation on what you consider to be the five most important legacies of the Roman Empire.  Your PowerPoint will include a title screen with your name, class period, and title of PowerPoint.  You will include a minimum 5 slides, one for each legacy.  Your slides will include a description of the legacy and why you believe this is an important legacy.  Each slide will also include a picture or pictures that relate to the legacy you have selected.

create a Powerpoint presentation on the expansion of the roman empire.  The presentation will cover the time period from the founding of rome to the turn of the MILLENNIUM.  Your presentation will include a minimum of 10 slides, include text and pictures, and will cover the significant events and persons during the expansion of the roman empire.  we will work on this for three days in class and will be due at the end of your class period.

The past few days we have been studying Alexander the Great.  Below you will find readings and a graphic organizer where you will read about Alexander the Great from the perspective of the conqueror and the conquered.  As you read each section you will fill in your notes in the appropriate spot in the graphic organizer.  Additionally, you will find a video above that does a great job of highlighting Alexander's exploits throughout Europe, Northern Africa, and Asia Minor.  I would highly recommend that you also watch this video.


After you have completed the readings and the graphic organizer, you will write a standard five-paragraph essay where you will take a position on whether Alexander was a hero or a villain and use the evidence from the readings and your own research to argue your point thoroughly and effectively.  Once you have completed your essay you will submit it to me in the assignment upload link below.  This assignment is due Friday. You are to name your file in the following format: first/last name ATG.
